One of the native trees to the PNW and Sauvie Island specifically is the Suksdorf’s Hawthorne (Crataegus Gaylussacia). From April to June clusters of white flowers appear supplying nectar to pollinators. In June berries form and by July the berries have turned black earning it’s nickname black apple. These berries are loved by birds and mammals. They were once a food and medicinal source for Native Americans.
